Testing on smaller projects

I really want to make the Falling Maple Quilt by Miss Print but have never made a maple leaf block so thought I would test it out on a smaller scale first. The blocks are from the free pattern Modern Maples throw quilt. I got the idea for a runner from the flickr group. I loved this one!
I have a fat quarter bundle of sunset solids and I dont know what to make with them so I am trying a couple of smaller projects to see what I like. This is the first. It is Spring Quarter Quilt. Another free pattern, this one by teaginny designs. I was planning to do an allover matchstick quilting but couldn't find a thread that worked so I did block quilting again. I think it will be a while before I do matchstick quilting again as much as I like how it looks.

It's all in the Quilting

I really wasn't happy with this mini and could not work out why. Love the fabric and the pattern. Then I realised it was the " I don't know how to quilt it, I just want to finish it" quilting.
So I did some matchstick quilting in the spools and now I love it. I am a bit obsessed with this matchstick quilting! I blame she can quilt. I really like her quilting and love her Canvas quilt pattern. My new foot is great and makes it so much easier as I can see everything.

June Aurifil BOM

I made my June block of the Aurifil BOM over the weekend and I love it although it is very dark. I used more solid than in the original design. I am glad I started this and am really liking the results.

29 May 2014

I have finished the blocks for my quilt based on 25 half square triangles with Camille Roskelley. Here is a link to the PDF. I used the details for the shuffle at LaVieEnRosie to make the blocks. I am going to finish it in a 3 x 3 setting. The colours are pink and purple batiks and do not show up very well in the photo. Hopefully the block photo is a better indication of the colours.

Cross Stitch

I love the quilty stitches cross stitch at little miss shabby and am going to do it but.....it has been a long time since I did any cross stitch and I cant decide what colours to use. Then I discovered cross stitch rainbow at the crafty mummy. This is perfect as it is simple, no choice in colours and looks fantastic.
The only problem is no indigo. I am using No 12 Finca pearl cotton thread by Presencia which I got when I did the stitch me up blog hop at Sew we quilt. I love this thread and hopefully a shop in Newcastle stocks it. If not I will have to buy online.

Bloggers Quilt Festival

It is time for the Bloggers Quilt festival at Amys Creative Side. I always enjoy looking at all the quilts.I haven't entered a quilt in this for ages and decided to enter my umbrella quilts mini this time. I made this mini for me and love it. I think the matchstick quilting is what makes it. The fabrics are gorgeous and are a combination of canvas and cotton. As it is a wall hanging the different fabrics don't matter but the quilting has so much texture you don't notice the different weight of the fabrics. Here is the link to the minis I thought I should edit this to add that the fabric is all from a trimmings pack from Umbrella Fabrics. They have some really gorgeous fabrics. This is the blue pack.

May Aurifil BOM

I cant believe I am keeping up with this BOM. This is the block for May.
It was a friends birthday and I decided I needed one more thing to give her. This is the friendship bag by PS I quilt. I love this bag and often make it to add to friends gifts. This one uses left over Arcadia by Tula pink from this cushion.
